Odds And Ends

By Rachel L. West
The Political Social Worker

Just a few odds and ends to go over. BTW – Hope everyone is Social Work Month is off to a great start.

  1. For the past few months I have been acting as the Association for Community Organizing and Social Administration’s social media manager. ACOSA has recently entered into a collaboration with Social Work Helper, Karen Zgoda, the Network of Social Work Management and the University at Buffalo School of Social Work to present a live Twitter Chat.

The Chat will be held semi monthly with each member of the collaboration taking turns moderating the chat. The goal of the chat is to discuss macro social work topics that will be appealing to new and experienced professionals.

The first chat, which ACOSA will moderate, is March 13th at 9:00 PM (EST).  #MacroSW will be the hashtag for the chat. The topic that night will be The Rothman Commission. The Rothman Commission was founded by ACOSA in response to Dr, Jack Rothman’s report on the state of macro social work education.

You can follow ACOSA on Twitter @acosaorg. You can also interact with ACOSA on LinkedIn, Facebook and Tumblr.

2. I am now offering coaching sessions for new community practice professionals via Google Helpouts. The aim of this particular Helpout is to discuss your career goals, review job search tips, an explore the types of macro social positions available. You can find out more at this link..

3. Social Work Helper has been nominated for the 2014 NASW Media Awards in the Best Website category. Please vote for them here.

In addition to being the founder of The Political Social Worker blog, I am a consultant. My consulting practice offers advocacy and community outreach solutions to nonprofits, social good organizations, and private practitioners.
