New Documentary About the LGBT Community

Jen Ackerman is a social worker and filmmaker whose documentary Insights to Strength is a contender in CSWE’s 2013 Virtual Film Festival.

Her film explores the challenges faced by people when the come out as being lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender. Jen Ackerman recently sat down for an interview with Social Work Helper which you can read here.

On Thursday August 15th Jen Ackerman will be the guest for Social Work Chats by Social Work Helper.  The live Twitter Chat begins at 8PM EST. To participate use the hashtag #SWUnited.

The CSWE (Council on Social Work Education) is responsible for accrediting social work programs in the United States. The aim of the Virtual Film Festival is to find films that can be used in social work education.  The festival runs until September 6th.  You can watch the nominated films, participate in conversations and vote for the nominees here.
