NASW’s Modernization Plan Encounters Resistance

In 2016 NASW put forth a modernization plan meant to revitalize the organization. You can read a fact sheet on the plan here. The plan immediately met with controversy. Ten state chapters filed a lawsuit in response to the plan.

  1. You put 3 social workers in a room, you’ll get 5 opinions. Why, of all groups, some swath of social workers cannot understand the power of organization to create a greater voice and advocacy group, I will never understand. Sometimes I get the feeling that we follow the great Groucho Marx: I would never want to be a member of an organization that would have me.
