Message To Readers: Hurricane Sandy

Rachel L. West, MSW, LMSW

As Hurricane Sandy comes barreling towards the east coast I hope everyone in the area is playing it safe.  If you are in a flood zone, and told to evacuate, you should do it and don’t wait until the last minute.   The winds have already picked up significantly where I am on Long Island.  Lindenhust started flooding yesterday and parts of Smithtown are also flooding.

I have queued up post for the next couple of days just in case  when we lose power.  Last year, when Tropical Storm Irene hit, we where in the dark for nearly a week.  This time LIPA is saying it could take anywhere from 4-10 days to restore power.  Again if you are in the affected areas stay safe.  If you are told to evaluate do so.

  1. Be careful out there! I’m hoping that you and the others stay safe.

  2. Thank you. So far we are fine. I don’t live in a flood zone, but we have plenty of trees in our yard. Take care.
