“Planning for Individuals with Special Needs”

On March 16, 2015 Forward RISE will present a financial planning workshop for individuals living with a disability and/or caregivers of someone with a disability.

Planning for special needs requires preparation, research and oftentimes experienced professional guidance. The primary objectives of this lecture are to protect the assets of the person with disabilities; provide additional potential income to facilitate a better quality of life; prevent the loss of government benefits, including SSI; and balance the needs of other family members and beneficiaries.

Teresa A. Brogden, FInancial Planner Specialist and Paul Hyl, Esq. will present the workshop. They will cover the ABLE Act which was recently signed into law and well as other issues regarding financial planning. The Achieving a Better Life Act (ABLE) allows Americans with a disability to place a certain amount of money into a saving account where it can grow tax-free. You can learn more about the ABLE act here.

The event will take place at the Brentwood Public Library (34 Second Avenue, Brentwood NY, 11717) from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. To register for the workshop contact Melissa (of Forward RISE) at 631-291-9328. or email her at info@forwardrise.org.

Forward RISE is a New York State Nonprofit committed to real inclusion of people with disabilities through knowledge-sharing and inclusive social experiences.
