Bits & Pieces: Organizing with Social Media & More

By Rachel L. West, MSW, LMSW

From job discrimination to tools for community organizing; these are a few of the bits and pieces that caught my eye this week:

Organizing with Social Media
We had a great chat Thursday about Moral Monday and how to use social media to organize.  If you missed the chat you can read the transcript here.

FYI: Social Work Chats by Social Work Helper has moved to Thursdays.  Next week (8/8 at 8PM EST) we will be talking with one of the CSWE film finalist.

Addressing Teen Dating Violence
Salon has an overview of a new study on teen dating violence.  An interesting finding is that often times both parties have been the abuser.  The study suggest that this needs to be taken into account when developing effective prevention programs.

Beneficial Tools for Nonprofits
NonProfit Tech has a wonderful article with a list of 111 free or low-cost online tools for nonprofits. Many individual social workers may also find these tools useful in their practice. It is well worth the read.

Job Discrimination Against Bisexuals
Social Science Research Network has published a study on employment discrimination against bisexuals and other with fluid identities. You can down load the study on their site here.
